The scope statement is an important communications tool that clarifies the exact scope of a project. In particular the inclusions and exclusions as well as approximate costs are often misunderstood by various stakeholders if a formal and documented process is not implemented. An approved scope statement gives the project manager assurances that works are authorised to proceed as outlined in the statement.
