Have you ever wondered how dredging works? Here is a great video, explaining how the three most common dredgers function i.e. cutter suction, trailer suction hopper and backhoe dredgers.
The type of dredger needed for the job depends on many variables including environmental constrains, the nature, quality and quantity of the material to be dredged, material disposal options and distance between dredging and disposal locations, water depth, sea conditions, availability of dredgers and many more.
Depending on the project requirements and dredger type, the dredged material can be pumped via pipeline to a disposal location, bottom-dumped at sea, sprayed (rain-bowing) onto a foreshore or loaded onto barges.
